PHS Datashred launches Security Health Check
07 Mar 2011
PHS Maxitech's parent company, PHS Datashred, has launched an online tool for businesses and organisations to assess their data security, with a view to making necessary improvements.
The simple online form enables organisations to see what improvements can be made to their processes with practical guidance on how to become more secure and compliant.
Anthony Pearlgood, commercial director at PHS Datashred, says:
"It's vital that businesses keep one step ahead of the identity thieves by keeping up to date with new legislation and continually assessing security procedures.
“Our Healthcheck questionnaire is designed to offer advice to any business that is uncertain of the regulations imposed by the Information Commissioner’s Office. They now have the power to impose fines of up to £500,000 to businesses and organisations that are guilty of serious breaches of the Data Protection Act.
“Ultimately this is about stopping business fraud and protecting the confidentiality of employees, suppliers and customers.”
Despite increasing media coverage warning businesses to be aware of the fines facing them for failing to dispose confidential data securely many organisations are still ignorant.
National Identity Fraud Prevention Week has found that just 56% of businesses have put in place a clear policy on how to handle documents.
