Nine charged over illegal WEEE disposal
20 Oct 2010
On 14th October 2010, nine people were charged with illegally dumping waste electrical equipment overseas
On October 14th 2010, nine people were charged with offences under the Transfrontier Shipment of Waste Regulations 2007 and the European Waste Shipment Regulations 2006. They formed part of a team that was involved in illegally exporting Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment (WEEE) overseas, to be dumped in waste sites, putting local people and the environment at risk.
The two year investigation, involving intelligence gathered by the Environment Agency, uncovered a network of individuals, waste companies and exporters who had allegedly exported the waste in order to avoid disposal costs here in the UK.
In order to avoid prosecution, and dispose of your IT and electrical waste, you should use a licensed and sustainable operator such as PHS Maxitech. Maxitech operates in full compliance with waste regulations, by processing all equipment in the UK. The Enfield recycling and refurbishment centre collects and receives WEEE from the surrounding area, and processes it in an ethical and sustainable manner. The equipment is worked on safely and securely by fully trained operatives, at a licensed site.
