IT Recycling Apprenticeships
Maxitech and local Colleges work together to help unskilled workers become competent IT refurbishers and have a minimum of 2 apprentices at anyone time, who benefit from our apprenticeship scheme. Once they have completed their training they can either opt to stay at Maxitech or go onto work with other companies within the IT industry.
One success story
Gokhan Akbas: started as an IT Trainee (Voluntary work placement) in October 2006. At that time he was not studying but he was very dedicated and eager to learn, so he asked his manager, Marcos, if would be possible for him to have some formal study. Marcos then contacted Southgate College, one of Maxitech’s main partners for work placements and set up an NVQ programme for Gokhan. In February 2007 Gokhan started a formal apprenticeship in IT.
Gokhan: Accepted a permanent employment offer from Maxitech and is
successfully working for PHS Maxitech to date as an IT Technician.
Becoming an Apprentice
Course leaders or teachers send potential CVs and interviews are scheduled for the candidates. Before the interview, students complete standard job application.
If successful, the course leader and the student get informed. The starting date is scheduled and the security vetting process begins.
- 5 years reference check
- CRB check
- Credit check
An agreement/contract between the college and the company is signed and an apprentice begins their 3 months probation period. They receive training on the job and shadow their line manager or senior colleague. An apprentice usually attends college once a week and spends 4 days in working for the company. They usually produce work evidence sheets which need to be signed by their line manager and submitted to their college teacher.
An apprentice works for the company until they complete their course. After that they may:
- move onto the next level of education and continue apprenticeship (if both sides are happy to do that).
- be offered permanent position within the Maxitech.
- terminate; the person then starts a new job search on their own
